A Civilian Instructor with 750 (Thorne) Squadron Air Training Corps has run his first ever 10k race to raise funds for the Squadron.
Kevin Heywood had not ran since a child, and his New Years Resolution was to run five kilometres. He followed the NHS Choices Couch to 5k podcasts and reached his 5k goal at the end of February. He then signed up to run in the Brooks Run Doncaster 10k race, which took place on Sunday 13 May, raising money for Thorne Air Cadets in the process.
Mr Heywood stated "Many people think that air cadet squadrons are funded entirely through the Royal Air Force. This is not the case, and Squadrons need to raise money themselves, through cadet subscriptions and fundraising events. The money I raised will enable Thorne's air cadets to do more adventure training activities, sports, parades and camps this summer."
Mr Heywood completed the race in 1 hour 8 minutes 53 seconds, and raised a total of £301, which was supplimented by a kind donation of £150 by his employer, System Concepts Limited, making a total of £411. Thank you to everyone who sponsored him in his run.
